Grammy Foundation Offers Grants for Music Research and Preservation Projects

Funded by the Recording Academy, the Grammy Foundation Grant Program annually provides support for music archiving and preservation efforts and for scientific research projects related to the impact of music on the human condition.

The foundation awards scientific research project grants of up to $20,000 to organizations and individuals working to research the impact of music on the human condition. Examples of eligible projects include the study of the effects of music on mood, cognition, and healing, as well as the medical and occupational well-being of music professionals and the creative process underlying music. Priority is given to projects with strong methodological design as well those addressing an important research question.

The foundation will award archiving and preservation project grants to organizations and individuals working to advance the archiving and preservation of the music and recorded sound heritage of the Americas. The archiving and preservation area has two funding categories — preservation implementation (grants of up to $20,000) and planning, assessment, and/or consultation (grants of up to $5,000).

For the 2011-12 funding cycle, a Letter of Inquiry is required before a full application may be invited for consideration.

Save Our History Invites Applications for Community Education
and Preservation Projects

Deadline: June 5, 2009

Save Our History ( http://www.saveourhistory.com/ ), a program of
the History Channel ( http://www.history.com/ ) and the American
Association for State and Local History ( http://www.aaslh.org/),
is a national initiative that supports local history education
and historic preservation efforts in communities across the
United States.

Each year, Save Our History awards a total of $250,000 to history
organizations that partner with schools or youth groups on pre-
servation projects that engage students in learning about, docu-
menting, and preserving the history of their communities.

Eligible applicants must be nonprofit 501(c)(3) history organiza-
tions (e.g., museums, historical societies, preservation organi-
zations, historic sites, libraries, or archives). Other eligible
applicants include local government agencies such as parks and
recreation commissions, historic commissions, departments of
local history, or other local government agencies that own and/or
operate a historic site or property. Applicants must be located
in one of the fifty states or the District of Columbia.

Applicants must partner with a local elementary, middle, or high
school(s), or organization(s) that provides educational program-
ming for children of similar ages to design a historic education
and preservation project. Organizations that have received a Save
Our History grant in the last three years are not eligible to
apply.

History Channel Announces Guidelines for Save Our History Grant Program

An initiative of the History Channel ( http://www.history.com/ ), the Save Our History Program invites history organizations to partner with a local school or youth group and apply for funding to help preserve the history of their communities.

Each year, the History Channel awards grants to organizations across the country that partner with schools or youth groups on community- preservation projects that engage students in learning about, documenting, and preserving local history.

Eligible applicants are nonprofit 501(c)(3) history organizations such as museums, historical societies, preservation organizations, historic sites, libraries, archives, or other history organizations that are located in one of the fifty states or the District of Columbia. Other eligible applicants include local government agencies such as parks and recreation commissions, historic commissions, departments of local history, or other local government agencies that own and/or operate a historic site or property. Eligible applicants must partner with a local elementary, middle, or high school, or an organization that provides educational programming for children of similar ages. Applicants may partner with multiple schools or educational organizations.

The History Channel will award a total of $100,000 in grants of up to $10,000 each in 2008. All applications must be completed and submitted online.
